If you need something to be safe around or in water, you cant go wrong with the GoPro. It impresses me more every time I use it. It isn't the most user friendly, but "bang for your buck" is, IMO, off the chart.
Ive been playing with one for a little over a month and it does some awesome stuff. Since I've had it I have seen them on TV several times, from Mythbusters to racing shows, to bizarre foods, to a new one about the bike couriers in NYC.

This is definitely one of those "what language should I learn threads?", but I'm not a beginner. Let me give a little background: I graduated in 2007 with a degree in computer technology (not science) with a focus on software development and web development. While in school, I hired on with an automotive supplier as a contracted radio technician with hopes of getting my foot in the door with writing software. It's taken a while, but I'm now getting ready to be trained in our next product we're working on and will possibly be writing test scripts in C# .NET. I'm looking forward to the experience and knowledge I will gain but long-term, it's not where my passion is. I enjoy some web development, but haven't had much experience with it since college and haven't had any reason to delve deeper into it. Recently, I've had a few people approach me about building websites for them for a salary, so it's started to spark some interest into that field again. I have experience with several languages: Java, HTML, C#, ASP, SQL, PL/SQL, some Objective-C, C. But it's only at a very intermediate level, nothing advanced like Java servlets, Cocoa, or .NET framework specific. In my spare time, I'd like to delve deeper into something more advanced. I love the Mac platform for development just because a lot of things are built into the system already. Some languages I'm thinking of looking into are:
1. Java (specifically Tomcat and Spring)
2. Objective-C (Cocoa, iPhone)
3. Ruby (Rails)
I know #1 and #3 are more web specific and might be beneficial because of my background in web development, but I really like the surge going on with Objective-C and the Mac and iPhone platforms. But would this help on a career level? I want to pick one where there's a strong demand for it and something that puts food on the table. I'm not talking about just writing apps for the app store, but writing apps for businesses that use Macs. It just seems like it's hard to land an entry or junior level job out therre without some type of experience. My main experience now is just education and I'd like to dig deeper into these frameworks out there that are used to work on a project that might gain me experience to show employers. Are there advantages to learning one framework over another or should I just pick one and go with it? I know Java and .NET are used a lot in the enterprise, but it seems like there's no shortages of these developers out there. Would learning a niche language like Objective-C or Ruby be an advantage since there are fewer experts in these languages? I'm open to any ideas or questions that people might have. Thanks.

Well, the time has come, I thought I would share some photos of my Mac Portables with you. I have two Portables, a M5120 and an M5126 with the backlit display. Both have rebuilt batteries, and function flawlessly. I have posted 14 photos (1-9 of the M5126) (10-14 of the M5120). Enjoy!!

I'm about to embark on this process myself. I have about 3500 LPs (roughly 1/3 Jazz, 2/3 classical). I've been using a 20+ yr. old Linn Sondek LP12 with an Arcam Alpha 10 integrated amp and Linn Sara speakers, but the LP12 needs repair, so I'm going to trade it to someone who wants it for tweaking in return for a new Rega P3-24.
I think I will get the NAD PP 3i phono-to-USB preamp (http://nadelectronics.com/products/hifi-accessories/PP-3i-Digital-Phono-Preamplifier) for ripping select LPs to digital. This is something I've never done. It comes with AlpineSofts VinylStudio Lite ripping software, so I'll see how that'll works out.

Something sounds wrong there. I get 4 or 5 hours battery life on my DSi (bought earlier this year so it's not old), my 3DS gets 7 hours battery life on DS games.
Hm, we're getting around 11-12 hours on DS games - though we do play with the screen on the dimmest settings. Not sure what impact cranking the brightness up has? (Though if memory serves, it's always killed batteries) The 3DS was getting about 6, although we only flattened it twice before sending it back.
Looking up Wikipeda, these are the official stats:
3DS playing a DS game: 5-8 hours
DSi XL: 13-17 (4-5 max brightness)
DSi: 9-14 (3-4)
DS Lite: 15-19 (5-8)
DS: 6 - 10
So it's pretty clear that cranking up the brightness does massively reduce battery length, but the DSi is capable of far out-running the 3DS if you keep the brightness down.

I smashed my 3GS few days, got the white on a 12 month contract, so longer it takes for the 5 to come out the better.
I wanted a 3G phone with wifi tethering, i4 still a top phone, get it.
How did you get a 12 month contract? AT&T?

Any new information on baseband unocks will be revealed by the iphone dev team. They are the ones responsible for free unlocks. They have a blog it's here: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/
The don't hang around in this site (other than saurik who posted once or twice a long time ago). We get our information from them.

So your assertation is that since nature takes a long time to make changes on it's own, any changes we make much faster will be OK. That makes sense, insomuch as now i know that the anti-global-warming people just aren't applying any logic anymore.
My thoughts exaclty.
Sdashiki, when people talk about global warming, they usually don't refer to the phenomenon per se (which is a natural process that changes climate slowly over thousands of years), but to the part of it that is caused by human activities (which is a rapid change of climate due to the emission of greenhouse gases).
from a scientific (NOT environmentalist) point of view cant be proven
Well that's interesting, but "actual" scientists mostly agree that it is real (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming):
The scientific opinion on climate change, as expressed by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and explicitly endorsed by the national science academies of the G8 nations, is that the average global temperature has risen 0.6 0.2 C since the late 19th century, and that "most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities",
Anyway, what can't be easily proven is that these hurricanes are related to global warming, not that global warming is taking place.

My Illustrator class instructor does and one of our assignments was to do something of that depth. I'll try to dig up the website, if you're interested.
I'd be interested to see that
Do you know of any good tutorial sites to get me started with illustrator?

Thanks guys I got it working based on the suggestions. I just have a learning curve to go through after being with a PC all of my life. Luckly I'm not having too many issues.
On another note, anyone have a good idea for a travel bag that will carry a 13" mac book pro with charger, Iphone and Ipad 2. Any suggestions or experiences will be help full.
The only other issue would be MS office for mac as I'm having a hard time getting the exchange server to work but I think that is on my side not apple or the computer.
Thanks again.

Thanks for the replies, anyways, guys. Guess I'll have to keep holding on to it.
Actually, I have a soft spot for the 040 CPU machines. If you want an addictive game for it, try Apeiron (http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/apeiron/).
I loved the Sony Trinitron tube they used, compared to the el-cheapo Performa 580 which used cheaper tubes.
Keep it. I'm keeping mine (about 4 of them). They're good for many color games (of the time). :D

Why does it matter if I am a new member? Does it mean I can't voice my opinion? Don't treat me like I'm some little kid.
Honestly, $560 is a high final price when you see the completed auctions for a new unlocked one that are mostly around $500. But congrats on your winning auction from the hacked account.
Great. I'm glad thats your opinion. I don't care. If I can get ahold of the winning bidder (not the phisher) and he wants it, I will send him exactly what he paid, at a price he chose, not me. I started it at $200, which is a very reasonable price. He chose how much to pay; and its not my fault that you're jealous/envious/whatever you are(?) about how much it ended for.
